The Trade Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen on Thursday, January 5, 2023, tendered his resignation letter to President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Minister has long been rumoured to contest the flagbearership position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
But it’s unclear if his resignation is to allow him to focus on his presidential ambition.
However, there have been mixed reactions on social media prior to his resignation.
Most comments suggest that the Minister was too late to resign from his position.
They say Mr Kyerematen has been part of the ‘mess’ caused by the Akufo-Addo-led government that the country is experiencing currently.
Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen resigns. Wow
The man realise his presidential ambition is on the line so he got to do the honorable thing, too late Sir, you are part of the mess created by the Nana Akufo Addo government.
We will hit you hard when the NPP choose u as their leader https://t.co/tANkPH8MpO

Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the Trade ministry to lace his boots for the NPP flagbearership race doesn’t offer much . He is part and parcel of the mess created in our economy
He and Bawumia do no deserve any slot in our politics anymore !!!

Other suggest that the Trade Minister resigned in order to focus on his presidential ambitions.
Again, the race of who is in line to replace Mr Kyerematen has also been talked about on social media.
Alan Kyeremanten, Ghana’s Trade Minister resigns.
Election 2024 positioning? Or differences with the President?
Also, who’s the next trade minister for Ghana? There must be a lot of lobbying going on now!!!!

Politically, it’s to focus on his Presidential ambition because this “Bawumia Must Win” slogan dey choke. This slogan and the widespread endorsement of Bawumia makes Alan unpopular, especially if he chose to still acts as the trade minister. So, it is a good decision he has made! https://t.co/ipSGdJF7Df
